Wavemakers, Oscillators, Surge Devices

Product Reviews from your About Guides to Saltwater Aquariums on some of the most popular wavemakers and oscillators used in the hobby.

Aquarium Currents Sea Swirl

The Sea Swirl is an electrically powered, tank rim mounted, non-submersible wavemaker which agitates the tank water surface. Since the motor powers the rotator and not water pressure, more water power is sent through the unit and out the nozzle.

BM OSCI-Wave

Powered by a small AC motor, located inside a 5.5" long, 3" wide 2.5" tall black acrylic box. This unit is tank rim mounted and hangs a powerhead 4.5" below the rim of the tank, rotating it in a 90 degree arc, every 30 seconds.

Natural Wave Timer

The Natural Wave Timer is a 6 outlet power strip, 3 of the outlets are programmable. Two of the three timed outlets have alternate on/off patterns with adjustable periods. The third programmable outlet can be set to run independently.

Ocean Currents Wave & Current Generator

Each of these five individual Current Generators creates a unique wave pattern. These units are tank mounted with a 4 suction cup base and require a pump (additional) with at least 500 GPH flow rate. They can be moved around the tank to create the desired effect.

Pulse-It Variable Pulse Wave Maker

This unit simultaneously controls up to six power heads or pumps, up to a 5-amp total. Each outlet has an individual timer setting for between 0.5 seconds to 100 hour intervals.

Red Sea Pharm Wavemaster Pro

The Wavemaster Pro, manufactured by Red Sea Pharm is a highly programmable wavemaker, offering a variety of preset options. These units will drive up to 4 powerheads with a maximum power load of 720 watts.

Powersweep Powerheads

The Powersweep Powerheads are the only automatic rotating powerheads on the market. Requiring no extra electronics, these units are the most inexpensive wavemakers available. Although users reported that the first production models were experiencing problems, the later models seem to be functioning much better.
