Congratulations! With this simple decision, many new and wonderful adventures await. Undoubtedly you have seen or know of someone already in the hobby and have been "bitten" by the salt bug. Most of us started this way, and it is probably still the No. 1 way new folks join our ranks.

If you have previously visited this About website, you may have had the opportunity to read some of the many valuable articles on the whole gamut of related topics and subject matter. It's amazing how diversified the keeping of marine fish and animals can be. From a simple 10 gallon aquarium with corner filter up to the most sophisticated array of electronic monitoring equipment, this hobby can appeal to everyone's level of time and commitment. Did I mention money? Like most modern hobbies, the investment undertaken here can quickly become a "second-mortgage" affair, if allowed to!

Where then to begin?

Usually the best starting point is to determine where the final resting place of the aquarium will be. Final? Considering that 1 gallon of saltwater weighs around 8.5 pounds, even a 10 gallon tank isn't going to be able to be shifted around easily.
