The Gray Reef Shark (Carcharhinus amblyrhynchos) is locally common on tropical reefs adjacent to open water in Hawai‘i and the Indo-Pacific. It is best identified by the bold black trailing edge on the tail and the lack of an interdorsal ridge from the dorsal fin to the tail. The Gray Reef Shark is an aggressive territorial species that displays a threat posture before attacking. It attains 6 feet in length.
