Scientific Name:
Heteractis magnifica.
Description:
A healthy Magnificent Sea Anemone has a red to orange shaft with purple tipped brown-green tentacles.
Reproduction:
In the wild, this anemone lives both singly and in large colonies. While some Heteractis magnifica have been known to clone themselves (split) in aquariums, and their offspring then splitting again, others have not cloned.
Feeding & Aquarium Compatibility:
This species does not seem to have a good appetite in captivity. However it will accept shrimp and other crustaceans, but reject fish and mollusks. It may be that this species greatly prefers plankton, which is sorely lacking in most hobby aquariums. Captive survival seems to be connected to having a varied diet.
