Protein Skimmers - Part 3 - Installation Options

Now there are surely those of you out there that will be quick to point out that the quality of an over flowing skimmer effluent isn't good for water quality. This is true. Even wet and wild foam contains noxious residues that are best not reintroduced into the overall system water. Wouldn't you agree though that managing this, as opposed to a potential loss of livestock, your marriage, and your favorite Oriental rug be preferable? I certainly would! (I did not list the potential disasters in order of importance, Dear). So, in the sump it is! Besides the obvious benefit of avoiding potential tsunami's in the living room, there are other sound reasons for choosing a sump-mounted skimmer. Easy access, compactness, and simplified plumbing come to mind as the most desirable.

In Part 4 I illustrate the various ways to safely set up a sump-mounted skimmer, and I think you'll agree that if humanly possible, this is the way to go!
