Once water has been added to the transport container, it's time to add an ammonia-eliminating product. This is an essential additive when moving fresh or saltwater aquarium pets, as it will prevent the build-up of ammonia in the transport water that exposes the animals to problems with ammonia burns before, during, and after transit.

Product Tips

  • Any appropriate type of fresh or saltwater usage ammonia-eliminating product can be used, but we strongly recommend AmQuel by Kordon. This product acts immediately, is fish and invert safe, and although it is important to follow the dosage directions on any product used, it is very difficult to overdose with AmQuel. The benefit here is that there is less worry as to how much to add, having to be exact in measuring, as well as redosing during the move.

  • Take an ample supply of whatever product you plan to use with you, because you will need to take care of the transport container water during transit, which in all likelihood will include having to add more or redose the water with this product to prevent further ammonia from building-up.
