Fish and Invertebrates Star Care Rating Chart

The Star Ratings shown below are formulated from our personal opinions and experience of handling saltwater aquarium fish and invertebrates since 1989, and based on the assumption that the animals are in the best of health when you buy them!

  • One Star - Easy
    • Adapts well to tank life and will eat just about any type of tank fed foods given it.
    • Good for a BEGINNER.
  • Two Stars - Moderately Easy
    • Adapts well to tank life, but may have some specialized food or care requirements.
    • Good for an INTERMEDIATE aquarist.
  • Three Stars - Difficult
    • Can be sensitive to changes in water conditions,
    • usually does not fair well in captivity,
    • and/or is hard to feed because of specialized diet requirements.
    • Should only be kept by a WELL EXPERIENCED aquarist.
  • Four Stars - Extremely Difficult
    • Should NOT be kept in captivity!
    • If it is, it should ONLY be kept by an ADVANCED aquarist.
