When shopping and comparing prices on books from online bookstores or suppliers, publications may appear in the search results that are misidentfied, such as being listed by the wrong title and/or version. Therefore, it is important to check the ISBN shown with a publication you are interested in buying, because this number assigned to a book identifies it by title, as well as other specifications.
  • What version the book is, hardcover or softcover/paperback.
  • The year is was published, or if the book is a reprint or revised version.
  • Part of the code is an identifier of the publisher that produced the book.

By shopping carefully and checking the ISBN, this will help to insure that you are purchasing the correct book the first time when ordering. If you find ISBN numbers to be confusing or you get conflicting information on search results, it helps to go directly to the Publisher's Web site to get confirmation on a number.
