We are going to try and start a 100 gallon tank with mainly corals and the odd fish, but my fiancé would like to know about the possibility of having sharks and/or an octopus in the aquarium? Are there any small species, and how did they do?
Also, if you insist on keeping a shark, may we suggest you purchase the book "Aquarium Sharks & Rays; An Essential Guide to Their Selection, Keeping, and Natural History" by Scott W. Michael.
As far as an Octopus, this can be fascinating animal to have, but they do have a bad habit of inking and crawling out of tanks, and their main diet consists of crustacean life, so putting crabs, hermits, ornamental shrimps, etc. in the tank is out of the question. You also need to be careful of what type you buy, as some species have poisonous bites. To learn more about Octopuses, refer to our Cephaopod Care Resources.
