Material Preparation

The DIY Oak Aquarium Cabinet Plywood #1 and DIY Oak Aquarium Cabinet Plywood #2 give you a cut out plan for the components. Note that several of the smaller canopy parts are not shown which can be cut out of the plywood scraps.

Measure and mark all of the components on the plywood. Make sure to allow for the width of the saw blade (usually 1/8" to 1/4"). With the wood saw, cut all of the components. Make sure that all of the vertical support pieces are of the same length. After cutting, remove all pencil marks on the external parts of the plywood. Sand all of the external faces and edges of the plywood (it's easier to do this now, rather than after the parts are assembled).

Measure, mark and cut the trim pieces. You may want to wait until the cabinet is assembled before measuring and cutting the trim. Test your saw blade angels on a piece of scrap wood before cutting the trim pieces.

HINT: Cut the trim pieces a bit (1/2" or so) long to begin with, then perform the final cuts after checking the fit on the cabinet.
