Identification:

This crab is white with red spots and/or blotches of red or brown. They have very large front claws and normally reside in the tentacles of a number of anemones.

Distribution:

All seas.

Maximum Size:

To about 2" across the leg span.

Reef Tank Safe:

Yes.

Diet & Feeding:

This crab is a suspension or scavenging feeder, preferring to spend its time in the tentacles of anemones, sifting small particles of food from the passing water. If not in an anemone, they will plod around the tank, eating meaty foods.

Characteristics & Compatibility:

When not found in an anemone, these fascinating crabs will travel the aquarium, scavenging food. If attacked, they will back away from a perceived predator, dropping one or both of their large claws (which continue to move) and seek a hiding place in the rocks.
