Scientific Name:

Cryptocentrus cinctus (Herre, 1936).

Other Common Names:

Watchman Prawn, or Yellow Shrimp Goby.

Identification:

The head and body are yellow-orange with bright blue spots on the head and fins.

Distribution:

Indo-Pacific.

Maximum Size:

To 3".

Reef Tank Safe:

Excellent, however larger specimens will eat small ornamental shrimps.

Diet & Feeding:

This fish should be fed a variety of foods, including fresh or frozen mysid shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, finely chopped table shrimp and frozen foods for carnivores. Should be fed at least 2 times per day.

Habitat:

Should be kept in an established aquarium with sand or coral rubble substrate and live rock to form hiding places. These Gobies may jump out of your tank, so take precautions.

Characteristics & Compatibility:

The Yellow Shrimp Goby is the most often purchased Shrimp Goby for aquariums. This species adapts well to aquarium life and has even spawned in reef aquariums. Only male-female Yellow Shrimp Goby pairs should be put in the same (especially small) tank as these Gobies will attack other Shrimp Gobies.
