The Brown Algae Photo Gallery contains a number of algae species which are in the Division Heterokontophyta and found in the Hawaiian and Indo Pacific areas of the Pacific Ocean. Many of these alga are found on live rock in marine aquariums. Some of these alga are useful in aquariums for reducing nitrates and phosphate levels.

2. Brown/Golden Diatom Algae Pictures

Referred to as brown or golden algae, which is actually not an algae at all, but diatoms, this is one of the first to appear in the chain algae when the tank conditions are conducive for growth, and is usually a precursor to other forms of both desirable and nuisance forms of green macroalgae.

6. Red Algae Picture Gallery

A photos gallery of Red (Rhodophyta) Algae which can be found in the ocean and, quite often, in saltwater aquariums. Red macro algae species (Rhodophyta Division) do not always appear red in color. These algae are scientifically classified as "red" because of the way they process light in the red spectrum.

7. Red Slime Algae Pictures

Red slime algae is actually not a "true" algae at all, but classified as a [i]cyanobacteria[i]. Most forms found in saltwater range in colors from blackish green to blue-green, orange-yellow to reddish-brown, and often appear as deep purple to fully black in color.
