Without a doubt, the AquaClear Powerhead 402 by Hagen is one of the best powerheads we have ever used over the years. We have had this particular model for almost six years now, and during the last three years of our fish collection business (1997-1999) this powerhead was used for the following purposes:
  • As a pump to download water out of 33 gallon sized garbage cans filled with ocean saltwater into our 2,000 gallon vat system, literally hundreds of times.
  • As a pump to make weekly water changes on our 2,000 gallon vat system, and the 16-55 gallon aquariums we had.
  • As a water pump to fill and refill a 33 gallon garbage can with packing water for shipping fish so many times we can't count them.
Near the end of 1999 we set up one of our 55 gallon aquariums in the living room and mounted this powerhead inside the tank to aid with water circulation and movement, where it is today. After many years of HEAVY use, our AquaClear 402 is still going strong as if we had just bought it yesterday! Aside from being a work horse, this power head has multiple settings for output water flow rates (with or without air), reverse flow capabilities, and the output nozzle is directional as well. This impeller assembly area of this unit can be taken apart and removed, which makes for easy cleaning and maintenance, or parts replacement if necessary, which is something we have never had to do so far.

Hagen AquaClear's are powerheads that we would recommend with a very high rating.
