  • Dateline 08/01/01: We have had a 14 inch Snowflake Eel residing with a mated pair or Coral Banded Shrimps in our 55 gallon semi-reef  tank for about a month now. To date they seem to be getting along just fine. We are not sure if the Snowflake identifies the Shrimps as cleaners, or that maybe they are too big for it to eat them right now. Only time will tell!
  • Dateline 08/27/01: All still well and fine, the Coral Banded Shrimps are still with us.
  • Dateline 02/2002: We lost our Coral Banded Shrimps, but not due to the eel.
  • Dateline 09/2002: We added a Cleaner Shrimp to our tank. The eel is now about 18 inches long, and appears to be getting along with the shrimp just fine, allowing it to clean even inside the eel's mouth at times.
  • Dateline 11/2002: The eel ate our cleaner shrimp. We are not sure if this was done on purpose, or if maybe the shrimp was down or ill and the eel decided to have a snack because it was easy prey? The eel was being fed and eating well. All we know is we looked up and the eel had the shrimp in the corner of the tank, grabbed it by the tail, then gulp, all gone.
  • Dateline 12/2002: The eel was getting too large for our 55 gallon tank, so we released it back into its natural environment where we had orginally collected it.
