Red Slime Algae Photos
Marine Algaes Photo Gallery

Photos by Debbie Hauter
Red slime algae is actually not a "true" algae at all, but classified as a cyanobacteria. Most forms found in saltwater range in colors from blackish green to blue-green, orange-yellow to reddish-brown, and often appear as deep purple to fully black in color. This photo shows what it looks like when it then spreads out, appearing like a mat or sheet type covering. To learn more about what makes this type of nuisance algae grow and how to get rid of it, read our red slime algae profile.
