Albert Thiel's 380g Reef Aquarium

Dateline:  10/07/98

A Note From Stan & Debbie, Saltwater Aquariums Guides
This is a reef tank that Albert Thiel had many, many years ago.  We liked the picture so much we asked Albert if we could display it.  From memory he gave us as much info as he could remember about the tank when he had it.

Tank Set Up
Tank  380 gallons + 55 gallon sump.  The aquarium had plenum with 4 to 5 inches of substrate of which 1.5 inches was a mix of crushed shells, crushed coral and some aragonite and a screen on top of that. Then the rest is live sand.

The actual plenum underneath the grids was 2.5 inches

Skimmer TAT model 90101 with 5MD pump

Very strong circulation in the tank

Lighting
4-400 watt metal halides 6500 K

Corals
Soft and large stony polyped corals no small stony polyped ones. About 100 lbs. of live rock stacked towards one end of the tank (tank end was against a wall so the tank insides could be seen through two of the long panes and one of the short ones, the 2 foot one which was at the front).

Load
High

Fish
Minimal
