Barrier Reef Aquatics is a new store with a great deal of experience.  The two owners have close to 30 years of combined Salt and Freshwater fish experience.  The carry some exotic hard to find fish and corals and their prices are very good.   They will not sell any animals if they see the slightest problem, and feed the fish in front of you so you can see them eat before you take them home.   Overall a Great store!

North Shore Aquatics is hands down, the absolute best fish store in Chicagoland, and design wise the best I've ever been to!  They have a complete miniature theater with surround sound set up for reef movies, National Geographic specials, the Bulls games, etc.  I've been to almost every shop from warehouse type stores to specialty shops in the city and all the 'burbs.  Believe me, the quality that they put into the design of their outstanding displays is excellent.  All filtration can be seen (just ask) and the livestock quality, salt, fresh and inverts is outstanding. Prices are not bad in comparison with some of the huge stores around, but again, they have a good guarantee, are very helpful, and carry top notch stuff.  For the North Shore area, believe me, this is definately the store to check out.  If the spouse is a little wary of the hobby, take them here.  My dad was trying to convince my mom to get a fish only tank, and once she stepped into NSA, she decided a 65G reef tank with all the trimmings was the way to go. You will NOT be disappointed.

They offer special discounts to club members and are very helpful with questions and advice.  They have almost everything you need for salt and freshwater aquariums.  They also service some reptiles and kittens.
