"Burial at Sea" Ceremony
____________________________________________
A Method for Disposing of a Deceased Fish

Many aquarists when faced with the dilemma of how to dispose of a fish that has expired opt to simply flush the remains down the toilet and send it on its way to the local sewage plant. For many of us, who have had the pleasure of watching and tending to the every need of our beloved fish friends, this seems a little cold and impersonal.

Granted, the remains must be properly disposed of, but something with a little more dignity somehow seems more satisfying. For those that may need "closure" in order to get their lives back in order after a lose, a burial ceremony of some kind may be the perfect thing.

While researching this topic, the traditional "Burial at Sea" ceremony came to mind. We have adapted this method to make it easier for the average aquarist to perform, while eliminating the time and expense of traveling to the ocean, renting a water craft, travel expenses, etc. The graphic below demonstrates a simple burial at sea ceremony, while leaving the associated prayers, music, and burning of candles and incense to personal taste.

Don't forget to take the size of your wet pet into consideration. Unless you are adroit with a "plumber's helper", you might want to rethink using this method of disposing of, say a full grown Queen Angelfish for example.
