Bio-Load |
| Whether you have a newly cycled tank or a well established one, whenever the bio-load placed on the aquarium "exceeds" the beneficial bacteria population in it, a spiking or recycling problem of some degree will occur. |
When the bio-load "slightly"
exceeds the bacteria population, it usually results in a noticeable ammonia
spike as the bacteria are unable to consume the total load. However, being
only a "minor" overload, as the bacteria grow to equivalent or larger numbers
(most likely over about a week's time), the bio-load is then eaten up and
the tank stabilizes.

Slow Down!! DO NOT add anything new to the tank. If there is concern about the ammonia level, a 25-50% water change can be performed. Otherwise, wait until the ammonia level returns to zero, then perform the water change and wait a few weeks before introducing any new livestock. ~Debbie & Stan Hauter |
